Notice - this Utah BBA effort failed in 2006.

I was unable to obtain the support of both the Utah Division of Wildlife and the Utah Ornithological Society at the same time, and found that without that support I could not seek private funding.

For questions about this Breeding Bird Survey and the possibility of another attempt, please contact Dr. Jimmie Parrish, Utah Division of Wildlife, at (801) 538-4788.

I will leave this site up and functioning for any who would like to see how I envisioned doing the Utah BBA, but will gladly transfer it to someone else willing to attempt another Utah BBA project.

Breeding bird atlas projects involve the following:
  • Divide the state into uniform squares.
  • Ask volunteers to survey a square to determine what birds nest there.
  • Volunteers report the nesting birds found.
  • Publish an atlas documenting breeding status by species.

Questions about this page or the UtahBBA?
Email robin@utahnature.com for answers.
The Utah Breeding Bird Atlas project has not yet started officially, partly due to the lack of an agreement between the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah birders, represented by the Utah Ornithological Society. Issues of funding and organization are not yet resolved.

While the project has not 'officially' begun, volunteers may request survey squares and enter their sighting data, and contribute to this worthy project.

Programs under development - not quite ready yet, but useful.
